Abbett, Sheila P.
It is with great love that we celebrate the life of Sheila Peabody Abbett, "Baba", who passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones, in Naples Florida. Born January 16th, 1931 to Sheldon and Emma Peabody Abbett, of Greenwich Connecticut, Sheila was a longtime resident of Greenwich and moved full-time to Naples in her later years.
Sheila was a lifer at Greenwich Academy, and after graduating in 1949, worked closely with her father in real estate in Greenwich. Sheila loved her family, as evident to anyone who knew her. She was a wonderful athlete, lover of animals and great supporter of nature conservation.
Sheila held over eight golf championships over a two decade period at the Greenwich Country Club including the Converse and Governor's Tournaments. Along with her parents, she created the Greenwich Town-wide Pet Show, which ran in Greenwich for over 50 years. A true birder, she could identify any bird by its song or call, and as an avid nature lover spent much of her time volunteering at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and the Corkscrew Sanctuary Audubon Center, both of Naples.
Anyone who knew Sheila remarked on her kind spirit and incredibly positive nature. She was an inspiration to us all, and we were lucky to have known her for so many years. She will live on always in our hearts.
Sheila leaves behind her beloved family, BK, John, Johnny, Amanda, Win, Ben and Lily Bates of Greenwich, Ct. She also leaves her dear friends and caretakers in Naples, and her Cairn Terrier Zoey.
Please join us for a Memorial Service at Christ Church on Saturday, June 29th, 2013 at 11:30am, with a reception immediately following at the Greenwich Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Corkscrew Sanctuary Audubon Center, 375 Sanctuary Road West, Naples, Fl 34120
