YU-WEN LEE (AKA JOSEPH, KUNG-YUEN) LEE November 5, 1909 - January 29, 2011 Mr. Yu-Wen Lee was born on November 5, 1909 as Kung-Yuen Lee in Bao-Dee Sheng, Hebei Province, in northern China, the forth child of a merchant, Mr. & Mrs. Lien-Ren Lee. Married to Ms. Ching-Hsin Liu on August 1, 1939, they have 4 children. Graduated the top of his class from China Military Academy with advanced training in artillery from the Armed Forces University. The highlights of his military career include: leading the defeat of the warlords in Northern Expedition; participating in the Sino-Japanese War; and commanding in the Chinese Civil War under the leadership of then the General Chiang Kai-Shek. He also taught military strategy in the Chinese Military Academy and wrote Chinese War History books on the Liao, Yuan and Jing periods. Following the Kuomintang retreat in 1948, he, his mother, his wife, and four children moved to Taiwan. He retired as a Colonel in 1960 and joined the Sacred Heart High School in Taipei, Taiwan as the Dean for the Education Department where he also taught mathematics. In October 1972, he, his wife, and their youngest daughter, Elizabeth, immigrated to the United States to join the rest of their children who were studying here on the East Coast. Mr. & Mrs. Yu-Wen Lee moved to Greenwich, Connecticut in June 1998 from Queens, New York to be closer to Elizabeth's family. His hobbies include wood carving and had successful exhibitions of his work including the most recent in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Lee moved to Greenwich Woods Health Care Center in August 2007 after his wife passed away in April 2007, they were married 67 years. He is survived by his four grown children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Lee will be cremated and laid to rest at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, town of Greenburg, Westchester Country, New York with his wife and his mother's ashes.
