Douglas Halbert Jackens
Douglas Halbert Jackens died this past Monday May 5th at age 89.
Mr. Jackens was born Feb. 10, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Greenwich in 1962. He served in the Army during WWII and was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1948 he married Mildred Emily Bourne.
He worked in pharmaceuticals, for Upjohn, Pfizer, and Merk, Sharpe & Dome from 1950 to 1969; then in real estate until retiring in 1999.
Mr. Jackens was an avid boater and was very active in the Greenwich Power Squadron, serving as Commodore in 1984 and volunteering his time teaching Power Squadron courses, and he always enjoyed a good game of bridge.
He is survived by his sons William of Eustis Florida, Douglas of Trumbull CT, James of Bridgeport CT, Robert of Georgetown Texas, his daughter Susan Schroeder of Mount Dora Florida, seven grandchildren: Douglas, Jenna, Krissy, Robert, Samuel, Heather, Meagan, and one great grandchild: McKenzie.
A private memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk .The Magner Funeral Home, Norwalk is handling arrangments.
