Armando Latorraca, 79, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Stamford Hospital. He was born on December 6, 1934 in Venosa, Italy to the late Salvatore and Antonietta Orlando Latorraca.
He enjoyed growing up with his nine brothers and sister and moved to Torino to live with his older brother when he was 16. He entered the Italian Air Force at the age of 18 and served for 2 years. When he returned from the Air Force, he lived with his brothers in Torino until he met his wife Domenica whom he married in August of 1964. He was looking forward to celebrating fifty years of marriage in August of this year. He had two sons, Sal and Joe, with whom he relocated to the United States in 1970. Upon settling in Greenwich, with two small children and his wife, he began working as an auto mechanic. Later, with his partner and friend he opened Expert Auto in Stamford where he worked for 24 years. After retirement he enjoyed watching Italian soccer games, going on vacation with family & friends, traveling to Europe & the Caribbean islands. He loved the beach. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, a good meal at a table full of family and going back to his hometown.
Armando is survived by his loving wife Domenica Cotroneo Latorraca of Stamford, his loving son Salvatore Latorraca and his wife JoAnn of Stamford, four grandsons, Steven, Adam, Jesse and Bryan Latorraca and his sister Rosa Prete of Italy.
Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by his son Giuseppe "Joey" Latorraca 2002, his siblings, Angelo , Sr. Silvana, Alfonso, Rolando and Giuseppe.
A funeral procession will be leaving The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 10:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Leo's Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
