Evelyn Hardart Murray

EVELYN HARDART MURRAY, 85, of Winter Park, FL and Litchfield, CT, formerly of Greenwich died peacefully Thursday, August 14, 2008 in Litchfield. Born in New York, NY she grew up in Forest Hills, the daughter of Frank Hardart and Evelyn Roche. She graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan, Trinity College, DC and received her masters from the NY School of Social Work. She was stationed in New London and served in the Navy during WW II as a Lieutenant J.G. in intellegence. Afterwards, she lived in Paris and was married there to attorney Samuel J. Murray, who predeceased her. She raised her six children in Greenwich, CT while working as a travel agent. She loved travelling, her dog, Tuzi, reading, the stock market, New Yorker cartoons and scrabble. Her goodness, strength and sense of humor will be missed by all. She is survived by three sons, Samuel Jr. of New Canaan, Frank of Greenwich and Stephen of Cheshire, CT and three daughters, Margo of Santa Fe, NM, Marcia of Winter Park, FL and Evelyn Mcgowan of Litchfield, CT and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, South Street, Litchfield. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CARE, P.O. Box 1871, Merrifield, VA 22116-9753. The Rowe Funeral Home of Litchfield is entrusted with arrangements.
