Allan Devaul Obituary

ALLAN STUART DEVAUL, age 82, Greenwich CT, beloved husband of Berit Devaul, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 7, 2012 surrounded by his family. Born on January 23, 1930 in Greenwich, Allan graduated from Greenwich High School in 1946 and then went on to earn a degree in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. Following his graduation from RPI in 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Army 19th Engineer Combat Group and served in the Korean War. Upon his return from Korea in 1954 he joined his father Willard at S.E. Minor & Co. in Greenwich, CT where he remained until retirement. He was proud to have worked alongside his brother Robert during that time. As a youth, Allan was involved in the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He continued his involvement in scouting as an adult and in 1967 he received Scouting's highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award. He was also dedicated to Rotary as well and served a term as Director of the Greenwich Rotary Club. In addition, Allan also served as the Chairman of the Board for Greenwich Federal Savings. Allan's passions in life included gardening around the house, sailing on his boat (Liberte), traveling to Norway, and spending time with his best friend and wife of 31 years, Berit. His parents, Willard Rogers Devaul and Beatrice Rea Devaul, and his only sibling Robert Ashton Devaul preceded Allan in death. Allan's first wife, Janet Bruce Devaul, succumbed to breast cancer in 1980. Allan is survived by his children: Leslie Emma and husband Ross (Raleigh, NC), Tracy Milot and husband Mark (Mendon, MA), Allison Downs and husband Michael (New Milford, CT), Stuart Devaul and wife Teresa (Kokomo, IN), John Jandras (Norwalk, CT), and Kristin Kolk (Fairfield, CT). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Joey and Gregory Emma, Allan and Allison Darrow, Willard, Charles and Augustus Devaul, and Greyson Kolk. Services are 2:00 pm on Saturday at Stanwich Chapel, 237 Taconic Road, Greenwich, CT followed by a private graveside service at Putnam Cemetery.
