Milonas, Mary
Mary Condaras Milonas, 103, entered into eternal rest on October 24,2012. Mary was born on October 2, 1909 in Lesvos, Greece to the late Steven and Despina Pappageorge Condaras. Mary came to America with her family from Smyrna in 1923 and settled in Greenwich. Mary graduated from Greenwich High School in 1930 and New York University in 1948. Mary put herself through college while working part-time as a seamstress and eventually found her true passion working in the library cataloging. Mary worked for the Darien, Greenwich and Stamford libraries; the New York Society Library; Pratt Library in Brooklyn, New York; and Scranton Library in Pennsylvania. Mary served in the Women's Army Corps from 1944-1946.Mary's smile could light up any room. She enjoyed opera and plays and loved literature. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, John Milonas; her siblings Gus Condaras, Chrisée Condaras, and George Condaras. Mary is survived by her loving Godchild, Kimberly Cartsounis Caterino, of East Granby; two nieces, one nephew and many cousins.A Greek Orthodox service was held on October 31 at Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich.
