Miller, Alfred E.
Alfred Ernest Miller, 93, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 10, in Boca Raton, Fla. He was born in Greenwich to Charles Henry Miller and Julia Gross Miller, and attended the Mason Street School in Greenwich. His parents owned one of the original department stores on Greenwich Avenue, called C. H. Miller (opened in 1911). The building still stands today as one of the historic buildings on Greenwich Avenue.
Al graduated from Greenwich High School in 1938, and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut in 1942. After graduating from college, Al joined the U.S. Army as a Tech Sargent in the Signal Corps. Al served in Germany during World War II where he sustained a gunshot wound through his leg. Al served in the Army until 1945 when the war ended and his ship (en route to Japan) was turned around and returned to the U.S.
Al returned home after being honorably discharged in 1945. Al enrolled at New York University Law School, from which he received his law degree in 1948. Al became a Patent Attorney and married a fellow graduate of NYU Law School, Bernice Tandet in 1951.
Al's career as a Patent Attorney spanned five decades. He helped inventors the world over obtain patents on their inventions including many consumer products we use today.
Al and his wife Bernice especially enjoyed spending time with their five children and traveling with family and friends to many countries over the years.
Al loved his family dearly, and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife, Bernice, of 62 years; four sons, Charles Miller of Stamford, Thomas Miller of Wellington, Fla., Jeffrey Miller of Greenwich, and Kenneth Miller of South Salem, NY; one daughter, Jennifer Miller-Morse of Delray Beach, Fla.; six grandsons; and six granddaughters.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00.p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, at Riversville Cemetery, Memory Lane in Greenwich.
