David Albert Obituary

Albert, David
David Albert, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 15, at Stamford Hospital. A longtime resident of Cos Cob, he was born in Waterbury and lived in Naugatuck before moving to Queens, N.Y., where he attended Jamaica High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. After graduating with honors in 1951 from Ohio University and in 1954 from Yale Law School, he moved to Greenwich, where he worked as an attorney and later became a founding senior partner of the Greenwich law firm, Albert Pastore and Ward.
David had many hobbies, including a love of music, gardening, reading, hunting, poker and worldwide traveling, and he devoted much time to his family and philanthropic interests. He held every office in the Greenwich Lions Club. He served as chairman of the board of trustees and president of Temple Sholom, as a member of United Way of Greenwich, the Greenwich chapter of the American Red Cross, the YMCA of Greenwich and as president of the Rehabilitation Center of Greenwich/Stamford. Until his death, David volunteered at the Neighbor to Neighbor nonprofit charity in Greenwich and regularly attended meetings of the Retired Men's Association of Greenwich.
In 1952, David married the late Ruth Jackson Albert, who also attended Jamaica High School, though they did not meet until later. David is survived by three daughters, Beth, Dana and Hilary; sons-in-law Ashley Stone and Harvey Araton; Hilary's partner Herman Stuhl; four grandchildren, Devon Albert-Stone, Emma Albert-Stone, Alexander Araton and Charles Araton; a brother-in-law, Roger Jackson; sisters-in-law, Susan LaRosa Ovans and Judith Beckwith; a nephew, Mark Kleiman; a niece, Kelly Kleiman, and a family friend, Sylvia Gordon.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. at Temple Sholom, 300 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich. Following the funeral, the family will receive visitors at 23 Clover Place, Cos Cob 06807. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's name can be made to the Greenwich Lions Club, the Neighbor to Neighbor charity in Greenwich and the Cos Cob Library.

We send our sincere sympathy to Beth, Dana, & Hilary and their families. David was a terrific lawyer, zoning expert and strong community volunteer, as well as a loving husband and caregiver to my good friend Ruth. He was also a proud father of his three daughters and their families. He will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with you this week.

To the Albert Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I met David while my dad and your mom were at the nursing home a few years back. I got to know your mom and dad and he was so caring and loving towards Ruth. A very nice man, he even came to my dads wake when he passed away. May God Bless him and may his memory live on in your hearts as they will in mine.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know that losing a loved one is not easy, but our faith in God's promises can help us get through difficult times like this. I hope you will find comfort in God's promise at John 11:24-25. Knowing that there is a future for those we have lost in death can be very reassuring!
