David Catterton Obituary

DAVID E. CATTERTON

David Earl Catterton, 84, died peacefully on November 24th, 2006 of natural causes. For 56 years, he was the beloved husband of Gladys Ruth Catterton. Born in Texarkana, Texas in 1922, to Nathan and Winifred Catterton, he was one of seven children. He graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in 1942 and served in the United States Navy as Lieutenant on a minesweeper in the Pacific during World War II.

He earned an MBA from Columbia Business School in 1948 and began his career as a Credit Analyst at the Guaranty Trust Company. He went on to become an investment counselor at Moody's Investor's Service, and then Senior Investment Counselor at Lehman Brothers. During this time he also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Finance at New York University's Graduate School of Business.

As Senior Vice President of Finance at American Re-Insurance Company he managed the company's investment portfolio. Professional memberships included the NY Society of Security Analysts, the NY Association of Business Economists, the Chartered Financial Analysts Society, and the Finance Committee, College of Insurance, NYC. He and his family resided for many years in Greenwich, CT.

David went on to become a private consultant, and traveled the world with his wife. During his retirement he served on the Board Directors of American Life Insurance Company, Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company, Adviser's Management Trust, Neuberger & Berman, and Hansa Reinsurance.

Along with his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his sisters Gladys Cupp and Helen Grantz; three children, Jim Catterton of Concord, MA, Amy Janovsky of North Andover, MA, and Rob Catterton of Sebastopol, CA, and two grandsons, David Janovsky and Chris Catterton.

Memorial Service, Sunday, November 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m in the Club House at Edgewood Retirement Community, 575 Osgood St., No. Andover. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the David E. Catterton Scholarship Fund, Texas Wesleyan University, Office of Advancement, 1201 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth, TX 76105.

I worked at American Re while David was there. I found him to be a kind and generous man with a wry sense of humor. I left American Re early in 1967 and thereafter our paths seldom crossed except from time to time at the Cos Cob train station.
My deepest condolences to David's family and loved ones.
