BETTY GERALDINE POLLARD (WELCH) VERGINE Betty was born May 2,1922 in Minneapolis, MN to parents Dollie Mohler and Clarence Pollard and passed away one year ago on May 24, 2014 in Green Valley, AZ at the age of 92. After living in several places, at the age of 12 she moved with her mother, stepfather Milton (Bob) Welch, and half-brother Robert to Yakima, WA. She graduated from Yakima High School in 1939, and moved to Auburn, WA, with her mother, stepfather Bill McQuillin, and brother. She attended business school in Tacoma, and later Washington State College in Pullman. Betty married Stanley McCormick and worked with her husband for several years at McCormick and Sons Florist. Betty and Stan had two children, Marcy and Douglas. Betty was very involved and belonged to various social and service clubs in Yakima. In August of 1980, Betty married Rudy Vergine. They traveled as snowbirds between Yakima and Green Valley for several years before becoming permanent residents in 2003. They spent a lot of time in Green Valley with her brother and his wife. Betty and her brother had a very close relationship. Rudy passed away in September 2006. They were very much in love and spent 26 wonderful years together. In her younger years Betty was very athletic and enjoyed water and snow skiing, tennis and golf. She also enjoyed a good game of bridge. When she moved to Arizona, she continued to play golf and bridge. She also swam, danced and learned to oil paint. We will miss her wonderful sense of humor and laugh. Betty was predeceased by her mother, Dollie McQuillin, husband Rudy, daughter Marcy Keller, brother Robert Welch and nephew Patrick Welch. She is survived by her son Doug McCormick, stepdaughters and son Connie Vergine, Marcia (Mike) Wall, Cynthia (Roy) Mulvaney all of Montana, Ron (Sharon) Vergine of Idaho; four grandchildren: David Mitchell, Audra and Adrienne Ross of Yakima, and Nichole McCormick; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Patsy Welch of Portland, OR; nieces: Robbie Rennie and Barbee Booth of Tacoma; and numerous other step-grandchildren, great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service honoring Betty's life will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015, 3 p.m, at La Hacienda of the La Posada Retirement Community in Green Valley.
