MARGARET JUNE KATZ

MARGARET JUNE KATZ

Margaret June Katz of Green Valley, Ariz., passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012. She had heart surgery in March 2012 and was unable to recover from a multitude of setbacks including a stroke in late November. She was 82 years old.

She was born on March 16, 1930, in Tacoma, Wash., to Agnes and Victor Blomquist. At age 4, the family moved to Minnesota where they stayed until 1964. She and her daughter and her mother and father then moved to California. She met her husband, Philip, there and together they had a very fulfilling life.

After retiring from their jobs in the Los Angeles area, she from Pacific Bell and he from LASD, they moved about the country trying out different areas in which to settle down. Finally they found Sun Lakes near Phoenix, Ariz. One final move sent them to Quail Creek. My mother loved living there.

They also did a lot of traveling overseas. After retirement they embarked on a freighter cruise that took them to Hong Kong and finally to Australia. It was one of my mother's greatest trips. They also travelled to New Zealand, Brazil and to Sweden where my mother met family cousins. Wherever they went she made friends which she kept for the rest of her life.

She had a very active and full life. Exercise was very important to her. She was instrumental in starting diabetes support groups in Sun Lakes and Green Valley. She belonged to the Scandinavian Club in Sun Lakes. After moving to Quail Creek, she joined a writing group to pursue one of her favorite pastimes. In this day and age when everyone is e-mailing and tweeting, she liked the old-fashioned paper and pen. She kept in contact with family and friends all over the world.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Philip, of Green Valley, her daughter Kathy (George) and grandson Brian of California, her brother Dallas (Darlene) of South Dakota, and her sister Gloria (Frank) of California. She also has nieces and nephews and cousins.

A memorial service is being planned and in lieu of flowers, please make donations to or group.
