MARY P. CAHILL, R.N. age 93, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2012 at Pacifica Senior Living in Tucson, AZ. She was a Green Valley resident since 1980. Mary was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on Dec., 23, 1918. Her parents were the late Charles Cahill and the late Mary (Molly) Flannery Cahill, who had emigrated from Ireland.

Mary graduated from PGH Nursing School and joined the Navy as a nurse. After serving her country, she became a public health nurse in Philadelphia during the 1950s. In the 1960s, she joined the Peace Corps and she served in Turkey. In the 1970s. Mary came to Fort Defiance, AZ, and worked as a nurse for the Navajos. After a brief retirement in 1980, she once again began working as a school nurse on a military base near Frankfort, Germany. Mary then returned to AZ and continued an active life until 2010, when she was 91.
For the past two years she resided at Pacifica, formerly Encore Senior Living. She enjoyed travelling, reading and politics. She was a lifelong Democrat.
She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas, in 1980 and her sister, Gertrude, who also resided in Green Valley, in 2005 and her nephew, Michael Hooker, in 2002 . She is survived by her niece Ann Jacqueline Murphy (James), three grandnephews, two grandnieces and eight great-grandnephews and four great-grandnieces. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in Philadelphia on Friday, July 13, 2012 at St. Martin of Tours Church. She is interred at Holy Sepluchre Cemetery in the family plot.
