DARLENE ABERNATHY, 68, and her husband Jim raised their family in CO, AZ, and WA. In addition to raising her family, Darlene helped to develop and manage two Abernathy’s Northwest Hobbies in Washington State before retiring to Green Valley. After a short retirement, Darlene helped to develop and manage Green Valley Gift & Gab until she was unable to continue due to her health.
Darlene passed on May 11, 2012, at Northwest Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 10,1944 in Alamosa, CO.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Jim, of 51 years; son Michael (Gina) of Sammamish, WA; daughter Michele of Green Valley, AZ. Grandchildren Kendra (fiancee Brian Slattery) of Seattle, Phoenix of Sammamish.Brothers Bruce (Janise) Shawcroft, Danny (Nell) Shawcroft, Jerry Shawcroft, Billy Shawcroft and sisters Kathy (Jerome) Parsons, Judy (George) Kelloff; numerous nieces and nephews; loving sister-in-law Annetta Osborn and special companion Taffy. She is preceded in death by her parents Amos and Margaret Shawcroft, Alamosa, CO.
A private family memorial service will be held in Colorado this summer. In remembrance of Darlene, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Animal League of Green Valley, 1600 W. Duval Mine Road, Green Valley, AZ 85614.
