Janet G. Smith passed away on Dec. 21, 2012, at her Green Valley home after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marie Jensen of Rosemount, MN; her older siblings Harry Jensen and Ann Devendorf; and an infant son Lee Allen. She was born in Rosemount in 1941, and married and raised her family there. She is survived by four daughters who reside in MN: Linda Zellmann of Norwood, Peg (Curt) Braun of Elko, Jennifer Smith of Waconia, and Shannon Smith of New Young America. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Stephanie, Abby, Lee, Samantha, Ben and Andy, and great-grandson Avery; as well as seven siblings, Arnie (Clem) Jensen of Rosemount; Helen Keatley of Green Valley, AZ; Alice (Dale) Noble and Joyce Luna of Santa Barbara, CA; Jim (Donna) Jensen of Boulder City NV, and her fellow triplets Judith Smalley of Seal Beach CA, and JoAnn (Jerry) Jurries of Green Valley AZ.
Janet received her RN degree in MN and worked many years at the Deaconess Hospital in Mpls, and Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. Later in life, she worked winters in Florida and No. Carolina hospitals. She loved to travel and play golf, both of which she enjoyed with her loving companion of more than 20 years, Roger Frigon.
In 2004 she moved to Green Valley, where she lived in the Villas for many years and then at Pueblo Estates. She spent most of her summers with her family in MN and at a family cabin in Cable, WI.
She had a great love for children and directed a Tiny Tots pre-school program in Rosemount, MN for many years, often boasting that her best friends were 4 years old! She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life "" playing softball, volleyball and racquetball in her younger days; reading, travel and golf in her later years. While in AZ, she enjoyed the fellowship of Desert Hills Lutheran Church friends and Pastors, who kept her in their prayers throughout her illness. Her family is grateful to them and to the gentle, caring staff at Arizona Oncology in Tucson, Santa Rita Rehab and Hospice, and the Carondelet Hospice workers in Green Valley.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Apple Valley, MN.
