The only girl of 6 children, Leila was raised in the Leavenworth, WA, area, graduated from Leavenworth High School, and was the first in her family to graduate from college. She worked as a classroom teacher or librarian at Ephrata, Kake, AK, and Edmonds before retiring early to pursue the rest of her life. For over 30 years, she and her husband Don lived in Tubac, AZ, transforming a barren acreage into the Secret Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast. She was an active and vocal member of the community and a strong supporter of the Anza Trail Coalition, the Tubac Center of the Arts, and the Tubac Presidio.
Leila is preceded in death by her husband Don and brother Orville. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Pearsall, and brothers Robert, Glenn, Kenneth and Keith Brown.
