NANCY MARIE BOYER WALZ, passed away peacefully Sept. 22, 2012 at home in Green Valley, Ariz., after a brief severe illness.

She was born Nov. 14, 1947, in Salina, Kan., and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Coffeville High School and Kansas State University where she majored in math education. Nancy earned her Masterâ€™s degree in math at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After teaching at Hillcrest Junior High School in Overland Park, Kan., for three years, she was then employed by Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Mo. and later worked for Yellow Technologies, Kansas City, Mo. for 25 years until her retirement in 2007.
Nancy was an outdoor person. She loved to play golf and to walk her dog, Prissy. Before her retirement and move to Arizona, she was a marathon runner for 30 years, a regular participant in Kansas Cityâ€™s Corporate Challenge, (PS.) in her age group, she won many of them.
Her parents, Dorthy Earhart Boyer and Roy Leland Boyer preceded her in death as did her husband, Gene Walz and her beloved dog, Prissy. Survivors are her brother, Ronald Leland Boyer, of Wilburton, Okla., two nieces, Heather Alvarado and husband Carlos, of Leeâ€™s Summit, Mo., and Jamie Keith and husband Chad, of Oklahoma City, Okla., eight great-nieces and nephews and her special friend and companion of nine years, J.B. Smith, of Green Valley, Ariz. and many good neighbors.
The family thanks Carondelet Hospice and Homewatch Care Givers for their care and kindness.
Graveside services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan., on Oct. 20, 2012. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Pancreatic Cancer Research or T.A.L.G.V.
