Robert G. Butcher, 83, of Green Valley, Ariz., passed away on Nov. 18,2013 at The Villa Rosa Assisted Living Facility in Sahuarita, Ariz. Bob was born on March 26,1930 to Clarence and Anna Butcher on the family farm near South Charleston, Ohio. After graduation from high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a staff sergeant servicing aircraft during the Korean War. Four years later, Bob attended Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne, Ind., on the G.I. Bill and received an electrical engineering degree.
He moved with his family to Escondido, CA, where he worked in the aerospace industry. In the early 1960s he moved to Columbus, Ohio, working 17 years with Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Power Co. While working there, he secured an MBA from Xavier University.
In 1973, Bob and his first wife Norma divorced. Bob remarried Donna Atkinson in 1979; she took an early retirement from the State of Ohio Dept. of Mental Health in 1994. The couple moved to Green Valley permanently in 1996, but in 1998 started spending summers in Show Low, Ariz.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Donna; his daughter Diane Faust and her husband Ted Faust; son Bruce Butcher of Columbus, Ohio; grandsons Robert and Derrick Faust; stepson Scott Atkinson and stepgrandson Jack Atkinson of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Bob also leaves behind his faithful best friend Mike, a rescue black lab mix from the Humane Society in the White Mountains.
A memorial service will be held in the Green Valley Mortuary Chapel in Sahuarita, AZ on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. Following the service, a reception will be held at The Peaks at Santa Rita, 661 W. Calle Torres Blancas, Green Valley, AZ at 3 p.m.
