Syril Greene Ross, 90, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at home in La Posada, Green Valley. Syril was born Jan. 8, 1922 in Utica, NY and graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1935. She received BS and masters' degrees in psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and remained an ardent booster of U of M (Go Blue!). She worked at the U of M psychology clinic for two years and in 1944 married William B. Ross. After his overseas war service, they settled in Utica, where she worked as a traveling psychologist for New York State, a school psychologist in the Utica public school system, and raised two daughters.

Syril and Bill moved to Green Valley in 1993, where Syril was a featured dancer in the Green Valley Spring Follies from 1993-2001; she and Bill also performed exhibition ballroom dancing in the area. In 2005, they moved to La Posada, where she had many close friends.

Noted for her incisive mind, she was proud of mastering her smart phone at age 90, and her ability to complete crosswords in pen. She is survived by her husband Bill, her daughters, Karen Wilson of Ashland, OR, and Deborah Ross of Waipahu, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Flannery and Gareth Wilson, Anton and Violet Fratzke; sister Elinor Lampert and brother Stuart Greene, both of Utica.

A memorial service will be held at La Posada in January. Donations in her memory may be given to the La Posada Foundation for the benefit of their scholarship fund.
