William R. Fields of Green Valley, passed away Aug. 13, 2013, of natural causes.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Dec. 15, 1920. He served in U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the amphibious assault ship U.S.S. Belleau Wood, and married Francis Carraher in 1948. After the war, he was employed in sales for a national distillery, then owned a liquor store in Riverside, Calif., for five years.
He later spent 19 years working as a window clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, and moved to Green Valley in 1987. He enjoyed collecting stamps and had a huge collection, was well-liked by family and friends and was a caring uncle and great-uncle to his surviving family, Michael and Marilou Carraher of Fremont, Calif. He was pre-deceased by his wife and parents.
A funeral service was held Saturday at Green Valley Mortuary.
