ELDONA ALLEN was Promoted to Glory on Feb. 23, 2011. She was an extremely talented and active craftswoman her entire life. She was completely devoted to her family and expressed her love to them through her many creative endeavors. She was a loving wife and mother and will be extremely missed.

She was born Eldona Lucille Spikberg on April 8, 1925, to William and Velma Spikberg, in Flint, Mich. She had two brothers, Edgar Spikberg, (deceased) and Earl Spikberg (Betty), of Florida; and one sister, Mildred Besaw (deceased). Eldona became a nurse after graduating from St. Joseph Nursing College in 1944 and worked in the Flint factories during the war effort.

She married James R. Allen on Aug. 30, 1946. They had three children, Nancy, Anita and Phillip. She was very active in their church, The Flint Citadel Salvation Army, and served as leader of many girl's organizations. She was also a member of an Antique Study Club in Flint.

They moved to Rio Rico, Ariz. in 1980. She became active in the Tubac Baptist Church and, with the help of the ladies of the church, made many quilts for orphanages in Mexico. They moved to Green Valley in 1988, where she became very active in crafting clubs. She loved to sew, paint, do embroidery, make beaded purses and stamp and create handmade cards for family and friends. She was president of the Green Valley Stamping club for many years and sold her beaded necklaces at Green Valley craft fairs.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughters Nancy Schultheiss of Burton, MI and Anita Albala (Neil) of Poulsbo, WA; and son Phillip Allen (Michele) of Clarkston, MI. Her beloved grandchildren are Mark Schultheiss of Albuquerque, NM, and Rachel, Mitchel and Stephen Allen of Clarkston, Mich.

There will be a Celebration of Life open house on Thursday, March 3, at the Evangelical Free Fellowship Hall in Green Valley from 2-5 p.m. She died of complications after intestinal surgery.
