Philip E. Johnson, 92, resided in Berthoud, CO, died in Loveland, CO, Nov. 13, 2012.

Born on Dec. 21, 1919, in Atwater, MN, to Elmer and Helen (Cederstrom) Johnson. Graduated from Willmar, MN High School in 1937. Joined the Coast Guard at the beginning of World War II, served in the Pacific theatre. After the war he was honorably discharged and returned to Svea, MN. He attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, graduating in 1947. He returned to the Willmar area and began working in retail stores eventually going to work for Salkin and Linoff (S&L). He married the love of his life, Verena Mertens, on June 29, 1950. He worked for S&L until his retirement in 1982 in Bemidji, MN.. He enjoyed his retirement, eventually moving to Green Valley, Ariz., where he resided until he moved to an assisted living home in Berthoud, CO, where he resided until he passed away.

He is survived by his sons, Gary Johnson of Potlatch, ID and wife Donna, and Glenn Johnson of Berthoud, CO and his wife Merry. Also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verena; sisters Viola and Ruth; brothers, Leroy and Eldon.

Memorial mass will be held in his honor at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church at 505 N. La Canada Drive, Green Valley, AZ, at 10 a.m. on Nov 30, 2012. A graveside service will be held at Church of St. Mary's Parish cemetery, 15th street SW Willmar, MN at 11 on Saturday, Dec 1, 2012. Family and friends will gather after the burial service at St. Mary's church in Willmar.
