News Death Notice

TORSTVEIT, Barbara Gilbertson Age 93, of Monroe, died Friday, May 03, 2013, at the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. She was born May 19, 1920 at Plummer, Minnesota. She attended elementary and high school at Plummer where she met Howard Torstveit, to whom she married on April 18, 1943 at Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. She attended Normal Training and Bemidji State Teachers College at Bemidji, Minnesota. She taught school for six and one half years at Plummer and Mentor, Minnesota and at Manitou, Oklahoma. She then became an at home mother. She and her family lived in five states during her husband's 35 years of employment with Armco. She was active in the Presbyterian Church and several organizations: Christian Women's Club, Sorosis Club, P.E.O., Young Life, Ramblers Club, board of Middletown Regional Hospital, and was a Gideon Auxilian. She volunteered at Middletown Regional Hospital for several years where she accumulated over 12,000 hours and then volunteered at Mt. Pleasant. She enjoyed many hobbies: crafts, knitting and other hand work, cross word and other kinds of puzzles, shuffleboard, and had been an avid bowler. She also enjoyed watching sports. She and her husband moved to Mt. Pleasant in December, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 4, 2011. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hasbrouck (Rich) of Peyton CO, Wendy Dobrozsi (Steve) of Monroe; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Cox (Tom) of Manassas, VA, Ryan Hasbrouck (Heather) and Richard Hasbrouck, both of Colorado Springs, CO, Beth Cloven (Matt) of Ft. Collins, CO, Dan Dobrozsi (Jennifer), Pat Dobrozsi (Heather), Jennifer Cornett (Jason), Colleen Dobrozsi and Ben Dobrozsi (Mary) all of this area; and ten great grandchildren, Ian, Justin and Conner Cox, Miles Cloven, Blake and Isaac Valdez-Hasbrouck, Allison, Collin, Audrey and Caroline Dobrozsi. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Chaplain Karen Fleming officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at the Butler County Memorial Park.
