Charles "Ray" MORELAND

News Death Notice

MORELAND, Charles "Ray" Age 81, passed away Friday, May 09, 2014 at Atrium Medical Center. He was born November 30, 1932 to William and Anna (Burns) Moreland in Paris, KY. He served as a Marine during the Korean War receiving a purple heart. He worked for Armco Steel for 36 years, retiring as a Crane Operator in 1988. During that time, he served with the AEIF for 16 years and one of those years as Vice President. He was a member of the Middletown American Legion #218, lifetime member of V.F. W. #3809 where he served as commander for 6 years and was instrumental in raising money for schools and many organizations. He played for 25 years for Armco Triangles and in 1965 the team made it to the World Series. Ray received Most Valuable Player numerous times and was inducted into the Butler County Softball Hall of Fame. Ray is survived by his wife of 63 years, Tootie Moreland; children, Debra (Neil Reck) Moreland of Cincinnati, OH and Charles R. Moreland II of Middletown, OH; grandchildren, Hannah (Tim Henderson) Reck, Ruth (Jonathan) Reck-Turner, Courtney and Tyler Moreland; great-grandson, Jack Dean Henderson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lawrence Moreland and sister, Billie Dean Stephens. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Baker-Stevens-Parramore Funeral Home with the Celebration of Life service to follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Military service will be conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
