News Death Notice

WILLIAMS, Claire S. Claire Williams of Hamilton, age 98, died at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe OH on Sunday, April 13, 2014. She was born Clara Lucile Shenefelt in Ambridge PA on June 24, 1915, daughter of Lloyd Harrison Shenefelt & Effie Dean Shenefelt; she grew up in Beaver PA. Claire received a B.S. in Home Economics from Penn State in 1937, then she married her high school sweetheart Roy C. Williams (also a Penn State graduate) on August 21, 1937 in Beaver PA. Claire was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Hamilton from 1966 to 2009, serving as an Elder, a Stephen Minister and a Deacon. She was also a member of the Hamilton Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary (past president) and she delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. After retirement in the 1980's, Claire & Roy accepted 3-month assignments to Sri Lanka (2 times), Thailand, Indonesia & The Philippines with the International Executive Service Corps (IESC) - when Roy died in 2009 they had been married for 72 years. In June 2013, Claire was featured in the Cincinnati Enquirer after food blogger Bryn Mooth discovered Claire's 1930's recipe cards and was inspired to create "The Clara Project" ... which celebrates wholesome cooking from a simpler time. Claire is survived by her daughter Janyth Williams of Fairfield, grandson Randall (& Wanda) Lemon of Destin FL, great-grandchilden Joshua Lemon & Sarah Lemon of Pensacola FL, and sister-in-law Verna Nadean Waltz of Columbus OH.
