News Death Notice

DICKEN, Genevieve J. 94, of West College Corner, died Thursday morning, January 3, 2013, at her residence. A native of Manhattan, Kansas, Genevieve was born August 6, 1918 to John and Isla Eddy Harris. Following her graduation from Havensville High School in Kansas, she received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Kansas State University. Genevieve was married in Topeka, Kansas on December 1, 1945 to Ralph V. Dicken, who died in April 1982. She began her teaching career near Havensville, Kansas where she was employed for four years prior to her twenty-six year tenure as an elementary teacher in College Corner, Ohio. Genevieve worked diligently to complete her Master's Degree in Elementary Education at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio while raising her family and working. She was a member of the Modern Home Economics Club, the College Corner United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and taught bible study class for many years. Genevieve was an avid reader and had traveled extensively worldwide. She enjoyed sewing, collecting stamps and surfing the internet. Genevieve is survived by four children and their spouses: Richard Dicken and Asieh of Indianapolis; Patricia Rush; Eddie Dicken and Kathy, all of West College Corner; Peggy Cooke and Michael of Noblesville; her grandchildren: Josh Dicken, Jennifer Dicken, Stacy Cooke Dona, Zachary Cooke, Katelynn Cooke, Sarah Rush, Joseph Rush; her great-grandchildren: Cole and Casey Venable, Colton Dicken, Haleigh Cooke, Jalyn Cooke-Nettles, Bayla Dona, Jonathan Rush, Cash and Jett Cooke; her son-in-law: Gary Satkamp of South Carolina; a brother-in-law: Rex Clark and his wife, Mary of West College Corner; a sister-in-law: Bonnie Harris of Pocahontas, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Genevieve was preceded in death by her daughter: Susan Satkamp and three brothers: John, Warren and Ernest Harris. Public memorial services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Monday at College Corner United Methodist Church with Rev. Mick Miller officiating. Friends may visit at the church after 4 p.m. Monday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the College Corner United Methodist Church or to the . Private graveside services will take place at College Corner Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
