News Death Notice

MCCONNELL, John Walter age 85, of Mt. Carmel, Indiana died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Hospice of Hamilton. Born September 8, 1928 in Franklin County, Indiana he was the son of the late Walton & Hazel (Stewart) McConnell. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. On August 31, 1957 he was united in marriage to the former Naomi Risse Lane, and she survives. He retired in 1991 from CSX Railways, where he had worked for over 20 years, he had also farmed for over twenty years in Franklin County. John enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, but never let anyone forget he was in charge! Besides Naomi, his wife of over 56 years, survivors include a son & daughter-in-law, Ivan & Liz Lane of Mt. Carmel, Indiana; two sisters, Dorothy Kocher and Eva Strait both of Hamilton, Ohio; two granddaughters, Rosie & Jon Kuehn and Tracy & Art Werner 10 great-grandchildren; as well as 3 great-great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ida, Goldie, Helen, Mary & Ruth; and brothers, Chet, Lester, Howard, and Raymond. Pastor Kevin Waltz will officiate the Funeral Services on Saturday, September 14, 2013, 10;00 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial with full Military Graveside Honors by the St. Joseph Post #464 of the American Legion will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Family & friends may visit from 5:00 till 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville; where St. Joseph Post #464 of the American Legion will conduct Memorial Services at 7:00 P.M.. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Hamilton or Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
