Larkin K. (Larry) MUNCY Jr.

News Death Notice

MUNCY, Jr., Larkin K. (Larry) passed away March 14, 2014. He was born on July 20, 1936 on a 240 acre farm outside of Salem, Indiana. At a very young age, his parents sold the farm and moved back to Manchester, Clay County, Kentucky where they were both born. Larry attended school in Clay County and graduated from Clay County High School in 1955. He always called Clay County his home. He attended Eastern Kentucky University then joined the U. S. Army, serving with the 101st Division, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He was very proud of the fact that he had made 45 parachute jumps and earned the Senior Parachutist badge. After being discharged from the service, he started to work for SquareD Company in 1961 advancing through the ranks and ultimately serving 38 years with the company. The last 25 years as Plant Superintendent, then retired in July 1998. Larry was an avid sportsman loving hunting and trap shooting. Larry was a Kentucky Colonel, a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, the Bath Indiana Conservation Club and a charter member of the "Lions" Club at Holly's Restaurant in College Corner, Indiana. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his son William Todd and his parents Larkin, Sr. and Mary Muncy. He leaves surviving a daughter Luanne of Reston, Virginia, a sister Margaret Thurman and husband J. W. "Spider" Thurman of Richmond, Kentucky, two nephews: Tom Thurman and wife Lorenda of Richmond, Kentucky and Scoot Thurman and wife Jan of Cashiers, North Carolina and several great nephews and great nieces. A visitation was held on Monday, March 17 at Ogle & Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike, Oxford followed by the funeral service. Larry was laid to rest in the Oxford Cemetery.
