News Death Notice

FERLISE, Louis 93, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Transitions of Bristol Village, Waverly, Ohio. Mr. Ferlise was born November 28, 1920 in Davis, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 70-1/2 years, Louise T. (Smith) Ferlise. They were married March 20, 1943, in Middletown, Ohio and he is survived by two children Donna L. (John B.) Caldwell of West Union, Ohio and David C, (Libby) Ferlise of Chillicothe, Ohio, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and former daughter-in-law, Kaye Ferlise. He was predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Paolina Cordaro Ferlise, formerly of Sicily, Italy and Wheeling, West Virginia and brothers Jack Ferlise and Guy Ferlise, sisters Jane Pizi, and Elizabeth Brock and one grandchild, Kelly Marie Ferlise, He is survived by one brother John Ferlise, of Levittown, Pennsylvania and one sister Lucy Socha of Wheeling, West Virginia, along with many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ferlise was employed for 25 years at the former Phillip Carey Manufacturing Company of Middletown and later Monroe, Ohio. As an engineer. He served as General Manager and designed the new building built in Monroe in 1968. He then worked as an engineer-designer for the Huffy Manufacturing Company in Celina, Ohio for ten years. He was a veteran of the Navy in World War II and served on the U.S.S. Shipley Bay, an air craft carrier, in the South Pacific. He was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Middletown and served as a youth leader with the church and with Junior Achievement. He was an avid golfer until he was 89. There will be no services but donations may be made to the or to any Hospice Organization of the donor's choosing, including the Warren-Butler County Hospice. The remains have been cremated and will be scattered at the convenience of the family.
