News Death Notice

LYKINS, Mark A. age 53 of Fairfield passed away Tuesday August 5, 2014 at Heartland of Woodridge- Hospice after waging a valiant battle against colon/lung cancer. He was born June 18, 1961 in Hamilton, OH to Patricia (Gerhardt) Lykins and the late James T. Lykins. He was a 1979 graduate of Fairfield High School and a 1982 graduate of Ohio Institute of Technology as a network systems engineer. He served in the United States Navy from 1989-1995 as a Tomahawk cruise missile specialist aboard the USS Hue City. He was especially proud of being a plank owner on one of the first ships named after a Vietnam war battle. He was a life member of the Fairfield VFW. As a single father his life centered around his only daughter from toddler to teenage years. They both shared a passion for the Fairfield Marching Band often comparing his band of the 70's to her current one. Left with treasured memories are his daughter Megan Marie Lykins; his mother Patricia Lykins; brothers James Lykins, Steve Lykins, and Matt (Leslie) Lykins; one sister and his primary caregiver Nancy (Lykins) Hester; three nephews Christopher (Sherri) Lykins, Gunnar Lykins and Blake Lykins. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Julius and Treva Lykins and maternal grandparents Robert and Edna Gerhardt. Visitation at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 3080 Homeward Way at RT, 4, Fairfield on Saturday August 16, 2014 from 2:00 PM until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 PM. A Private interment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park with full military honors by the Fairfield VFW Honor Guard.
