BARNES, Ronald Dean age 69 of Hamilton passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. He was born in Hamilton on September 16, 1941 the son of Herman and Pearl Mae (Price) Barnes. Ronald served 25 years in the U. S. Army, retiring as a Major in 1984 with high honors. He was a member of the 1966 graduating class of officer candidate school. Ronald served two tours in Vietnam. He spent the past 14 years driving an ice cream truck for Biker Dude Ice Cream Company, where he was known as Papa Ron. Ronald was a member of Montgomery Lodge F&AM in Spartanburg, South Carolina. On February 8, 1960 in Hamilton he married Phyllis Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Barnes of Hamilton; two sons, Ricky Dean (Julia) Barnes of Seattle, Washington and Ronald Duane Barnes of Hamilton; two grandchildren, Maxwell Ian Barnes of Columbus and Kaleb Dean Barnes of Hamilton; a sister, Bonny (Bill) Griffith of Belle Vista, Arkansas; in-laws Kathy and Tony Schwable, Bob Boyd, both of Hamilton, Curtis and Linda Boyd of Stuart, Florida and Toki Boyd of Hampton, Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Barnes; two sisters, Betty Brown and Margaret Peters; a grandson, Aaron Jacob Barnes; and in-laws Cecil and Edith Boyd, and Donald R. Boyd. Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 12:30 PM with Rev. Jacob Flannery officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Memorials may be made to Disabled Americans Veterans.
