Clayton "Buck" GARLAND


News Death Notice

GARLAND, Clayton "Buck" of Ross, Ohio was born on April 13, 1927 in London, Kentucky. He migrated with his family to Southwestern Ohio at approximately age two. He spent a great deal of his early life on a rural, working family farm in Reily, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Dorothy (Hilton) Garland of Ross, Ohio. To this union were born three children: son, Bill (LaVonne) Garland of Ross, Ohio, daughter, Sharon (Douglas) Garrett of Ross, Ohio and daughter, Cynthia (Russell) McGurrin of Ross, Ohio. He is survived by one sister, Shirley Prater of Fairfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Anna Garland; brothers, Lonnie, Don, Wayne, and Hugh Garland; and one sister, Norma Bishop. Clayton was blessed with six grandchildren: Kris and Heather Garland, Brandon and Bradley Garrett and Brittany and Blake McGurrin and three great grandchildren: Andrew and Autumn Garland and most recently, Katelyn Bathe. All of them have very special memories with their "Pa Paw." Clayton was a successful barber and hair stylist by trade. He was also a very accomplished musician who had a beautiful clear voice. He had mastered the Merle Travis style of guitar picking, so popular in his day. He was a devout believer in Jesus Christ and lived and studied the gospels diligently. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and acquaintances. Visitation will be held at Charles C. Young Funeral Home, 4032 Hamilton Cleves Road, Ross, Ohio on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Venice Cemetery in Ross, Ohio.
