News Death Notice

ROWSEY, Colleen Jeanette Young 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Berkeley Square Retirement Community in Hamilton, Ohio. Colleen was born in Hamilton, OH, daughter of the late Alva (Theobald) and Donovan Young on March 18, 1926. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1944. Colleen married Clarence William "Rows" Rowsey on October 20, 1945. She worked as executive secretary at The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, Champion Papers, Fillmore Elementary School, Monroe Elementary School, YMCA, and the Butler County Engineers Office. An active member of The Metropolitan Women's Club, Colleen loved attracting birds to her lovely and renowned garden and appreciated the beauty in all things. Known as "Mimi", Colleen enjoyed researching her family history and doting on her granddaughters and great-grandsons. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clarence William "Rows" Rowsey, her sister, Donna Young Carruthers, her mother Alva (Theobald) Young, and her father Donovan Haith Young. Colleen is survived by her devoted daughter, Susan Rowsey Damm, two granddaughters, Sara (Kevin) Holstein, Sally (Micheal) Yancy and her two cherished great-grandsons, Adam and Luke Holstein, much loved brother-in-law, Ralph Carruthers, niece Sara Carruthers, great niece and nephew Elizabeth and Ralph Carruthers II, cousins Joy Merrill, Barbara and Jim Cooley, Neil and Kathy Jackman, sister-in-law Donna (Robert) Prewitt, sister-in-law Mary Ann (Mel) Rowsey, and her very special friends, Marilyn and Joel Schmidt, Barbara (William) Copeland, and Charles Menche. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Berkeley Square Retirement Community, Sandy Fannin, Pastor John Lewis, and Hospice of Dayton. Also a special thanks to the sitters of Colonial at Home, especially caregivers, Phyllis Barnes, Evelyn Turner, and Mary Griffin. Visitation will be held at Weigel Funeral Home, on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 9:30am until time of services at 10:30am with Rev. Dr. John H. Lewis officiating. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park. A reception will then take place in the Donna Y. Carruthers Manor House at Berkeley Square. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Colonial Foundation in support of the Life Care Fund, 520 Eaton Avenue, Hamilton, OH 45013 or in honor of Luke Holstein donations may be made to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), PO Box 5202, Cincinnati, OH 45201-5202.
