News Death Notice
HULL, Donald James 87, of Oxford, OH, died Friday, October 14, 2011 at Hospice of Hamilton. Donald was born on November 1, 1923 to Harry and Johanna Boone Hull in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating High School, Donald joined the United States Navy, where he attained the rank of 2nd Class Sonarman during World War II. Donald earned his Bachelors of Arts at Central College in Pella, IA and then his Master of Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary, in New Brunswick, NJ in 1953. He served as a minister for the Reformed Church in America for 27 years. He had congregations in New York and New Jersey. Music was a love of Donald's and he was a member of many choirs over the years including the Bach Choir where he was able to travel to Europe, Shrewsbury Choral in Monmouth County New Jersey, Florida Hospital Choir in Orlando, and the Octavos at the University of Albany. In addition, he was an accomplished pianist and organist. Survivors include his children and their spouses: Mark and Marti Hull of Concord, North Carolina; Timothy James and Judy Hull of Albany, New York; Alice and Robert Cook of Oxford, Ohio; Justin Hull of Greycourt, South Carolina; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Preceding Donald in death are his parents; wife: Virginia Eleanor Rickman Hull; a son: Jonathan Hull; two brothers: Harold Hull and Charles Hull; a sister: Ethel Young and a grandchild: Andrew Hull. A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held at his residence in Oxford on Sunday, October 30 between 12:00 and 5:00.
