MAINOUS, Nancy Ann After a brave battle with ovarian cancer, Nancy Ann Mainous passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Nancy's family would like to thank Dr. Lyuba Levine and her oncological medical team at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) for their compassionate care and outstanding clinical expertise. Her family also extends special thanks to the nurses and medical assistants on Wards 5C and 10C at UTMB for their wonderful care and kindness. Nancy was born on August 31, 1932 to Helen and Jack Gould in Westerville, Ohio. She graduated from Westerville High School in 1950 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University in 1955. Nancy married her husband, Dr. Elgene George Mainous on March 16, 1956 in Hamilton, Ohio. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carol. She leaves behind her loving husband of 57 years, Dr. Elgene George Mainous; her two daughters, Ms. Lori Mainous Beresford and Dr. Molly Mainous Perkins; and a son, Dr. Mark Richard Mainous. She also is survived by her brother, Mr. Jerry Gould; two grandsons, Alexander Beresford and Erik Beresford; and her beloved schnauzer, Lucy. Nancy had a zest for life and was engaged in many activities in the Galveston community, including serving on the Executive Committee for the Galveston Island Humane Society and being a past president of the Galveston Republican Women's Association. She also was an avid golfer. A memorial service will be planned at the First Presbyterian Church of Galveston, where Nancy is a member of the congregation. She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Galveston Island Humane Society, 6814 Broadway, Galveston, TX 77554. (409) 740-1919.
