Roy J. ICKES

1929 - 2016

ICKES, Roy J. Age 87 of Middletown passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 11, 1929 in Dearborn, Michigan the son of the late Roy P. and Bernice (Teeple) Ickes. Mr. Ickes graduated in 1948 from Fordson High School. Mr. Ickes was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Europe during the Korean War. He was a lineman for Detroit Edison and then worked for many years as a manufacturer's representative. Mr. Ickes volunteered more that 1,000 hours at MRH and Atrium Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Ickes were champions for the homeless and less fortunate in the Middletown area devoting many years of service to Shalom Ministries since its inception in 2003. Mr. Ickes was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Dearborn Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He is survived by his wife Patricia Ickes, two daughters, Lynne Ickes and Leanne (Albert) Malcolm, and four grandchildren, Katherine (Scott) Lucas, Aaron (Anne) Malcolm, Abby Malcolm, and Lilly Malcolm, his sisters in law Shirlee Ickes and Barbara Hoot, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Lynzie. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Buddy Ickes. The Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church located at 120 South Broad Street, Middletown on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church until the time of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Shalom Ministries at First United Methodist Church, 120 South Broad Street, Middletown, Ohio 45044 or Hospice of Dayton at 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
