News Death Notice
ARMSTRONG, Donald A. age 91 and a long-time resident of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Sycamore Hospital, Miamisburg. He was born April 23, 1921 in Altoona, AL to the late Dewey M. and Gertrude (Johnson) Armstrong. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Evie M. (Johnson) Armstrong; brothers, Mel, Hamel, Dewey and Jim Armstrong and his sister, Sue Stanfield. He is survived by his children, Frank Armstrong of Miamisburg, Martha (Ed) Dietz of Lebanon, Larry (Judy) Armstrong of Waynesville; grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Dietz of Waynesville, Cindy (Gary) Oslin of Kennesaw, GA, Jason (Amy) Dietz of Middletown, Nicole Ball of Cincinnati and Bryan of Connecticut and twelve great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Donald retired in 1984 from NCR after 39 years as a HVAC technician. In the 1950's he built homes around Carlisle and Franklin. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin, where he and his wife participated in many programs. In his youth, Donald was an active softball player and loved fishing with his brothers and later with his sons and grandsons. He was known to have a "green thumb", as his gardens were the envy of the neighborhood and was always willing and ready to help others with any project. Donald never failed to support his children through school and sporting events, which he continued to do as a grandfather. His "old school" values and his "hardscrabble" upbringing on a farm in northeast Alabama during the Great Depression, served him well affording him the opportunity to lead a full-life graced with the perfect amount of love, understanding and discipline for all his family. Family will receive friends from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM, Friday May 11, 2012 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Funeral service will begin 1:00 PM also at the funeral home and officiated by Pastor Vernon Risner. Burial will take place at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church at 16 W. 2nd St., Franklin, OH 45005.
