News Death Notice
ASHCRAFT, George Albert age 92, died on June 20, 2012 at Tri-County Extended Care. George was born October 15, 1919 in a coal mining camp in Jenkin Jones, West Virginia, the only son of George Christopher Ashcraft and Bonnie (Miles). He joined the Army on October 19, 1940. He was part of the Company C 10th Infantry 5th Division, was injured in Luxemburg and honorably discharged as a Platoon Sergeant on July 4, 1945 after advancing across France with General Patton's army. In 1969 George married Sarah Belle (Smith) at a small ceremony in Cincinnati. They enjoyed 43 wonderful years together. George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. George retired from Ford Motor Company after 28 years of service. After retirement George was an avid bowler, amateur radio operator/volunteer and a Buckeye Builder. He went to Florida to help rebuild after Hurricane Andrew. George was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Kathleen, Eileen, Flora Joe and Mary Lou. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; daughter, Patty (Darius) Collins and two grandchildren, Samuel and Elisabeth whom he dearly loved. He also leaves his very special friends, Pete and Dean Moore, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Visitation will be from 10:30am to12 noon, Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Ivey Funeral Home 2565 Princeton Rd., Fairfield Twp. A celebration of life service will be held at the Funeral Home12 noon Monday with Pastor Albert Phillips officiating, burial immediately following in Rose Hill Burial Park. The family wants to give a special thanks to everyone at Fresenius Medical Center for all their years of love and care, to everyone at the Fort Hamilton Wound Center and to the girls from Hospice of Cincinnati for their comfort and caring. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Cincinnati or the WWII Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. www.ivey-rosehill.com
