MATHIS, Rev. Carmel age 90, of Middletown, entered the gates of the Father's Kingdom, Friday, May 23, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 11, 1924 in Dover, TN to George and Florence (Wallace) Mathis. He served our country during the Korean Conflict in the Army Air Corp, during the Ryukyus campaign. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Metal, American Theater Ribbon and AP Theater Ribbon. He retired from Armco Steel after 39 years of service. He served as President of the A.E.I.F. for a total of 4 terms. He started the Poasttown First Church of God in 1958, where he continued to serve until 1965. Carmel is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Mathis; children, Gary (Barbara) Mathis of Owingsville, KY, Krena (Tom) Shepherd, Philip (Gale) Mathis, Stephen (Michele) Mathis all of Middletown; sister, Ethelene Luton, Dover TN; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, 3 sisters. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Poasttown First Church of God. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00 pm at the church with Rev. Gary Mathis officiating. Interment will be held privately at Butler County Memorial Park.
