News Death Notice

COOMBS, JoAnn (Jewell) JoAnn (Jewell) Coombs, age 78, passed away on Friday, June 27th, 2014 at Hospice of Hamilton. She was the daughter of Paul M. and Myrtle C. Jewell. JoAnn married her high school sweetheart, William J. Coombs on January 22, 1955 at the Queen of Peace Church in Millville, Ohio. She was a graduate of The McGuffey School in Oxford in 1953. JoAnn worked at the Somerville National Bank for 38 years, retiring after her husband retired from the Ford Motor Company. JoAnn was a loving mother to Dr. Vicki Coombs of Parkton, Maryland; Kristi Coombs of Oviedo, Florida; and Stephen Coombs (Melody Halcomb) of Altoona, Pennsylvania. She is survived by two grandchildren: Tom (Amy) Coombs and Jaymie (Sean) Dickson. She loved being a great grandmother to Mackenzie Dickson, Braylen Coombs and Adalynn Coombs. JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Paul L. Jewell and George K. Jewell and one sister, Melva Ward. She leaves behind her sister Donna (Shawn) Gallagher, brother-in-laws Richard (Betty) Coombs and Jack Coombs, and sister-in-law Jan Jewell. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. JoAnn was a 50 year member of the Pythian Sisters and a 73 year member of the Darrtown United Methodist Church were she served many roles including Treasurer and Sunday School teacher. The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff at McCullough Hyde and Fort Hamilton Hospitals, Hospice of Hamilton, and the many in-home care providers, for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Darrtown United Methodist Church, 4309 Walnut Street, Oxford, Ohio, 45056. Visitation will be held at the Ogle-Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Oxford, Ohio on Monday June 30th from 10 AM- 12 noon. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation with burial at Darrtown Cemetery.
