News Death Notice

THOMPSON, Robert E. "Bob" Jr. age 88, of Hamilton passed away December 21, 2011 at Glenn Meadows. He was born in Hamilton on August 12, 1923, the son of Robert E. Sr. and Thursa (Walker) Thompson. Bob was a 1942 graduate of Hamilton High School. In 1945, he married Daisy Rose of Hamilton, who preceded him in death on March 3, 1990. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946, which included active duty in Europe. Following his time in the military, he served as a firefighter for the City of Hamilton until becoming a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Benjamin Franklin Lodge #719 of F&AM; the Hamilton Shrine Club, where he was active with the Antique Caravan; and VFW Post 1069 in Fairfield where he loved to pitch horseshoes, play pool, and spend time with his many friends. He was an avid bowler, and also enjoyed music and dancing. Bob always had a smile on his face and was ready to help anyone in need. His favorite motto was "have fun wherever you go." He is survived by his daughters, Connie (Ray) Hendel of Fairfield, Becky (Ival) Watson of Ross, and Vicky (Irvin) Jackson of Hamilton; 6 grandchildren, Scott (Melissa) Hendel, Nikki Hendel, Tawaun (Anna) Williams, Jacinda (Ryan) Gaines, Irvin (Trine) Jackson Jr., and Brittany Jackson; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose (Gene) Browning of Hamilton, and Barbara Keith of Columbus; a brother, Larry (Mary) Thompson of Troy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Daisy; his second wife, Dorothea (Shriner) Thompson; his stepfather, Charles Hutson; and his stepmother, Marie (Scudder) Thompson. A memorial gathering will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Ave. at South D St., Hamilton, Monday Dec. 26th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with Masonic service by Benjamin Franklin Lodge #719 at 7:00 PM. Cremation has taken place. Committal service will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, at Rose Hill Burial Park, with Pastor Valerie Waibel officiating the Memorial. Contributions may be made to Animal Friends Humane Society, 1820 Princeton Rd., Hamilton, Ohio 45011.
