News Death Notice
COLLIER, James Louis age 80, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012, at Kensington Place following a stay at Atrium Medical Center. Jim was born July 3, 1932 in Middletown, Ohio to Dorothy (Gibbs) and Brack Collier, Sr. He graduated from Monroe High School and moved to Florida where he lived for several years. He worked at Parakeet Jungle, showing the big birds on the news at the Paramount Theater. Jim loved animals and he loved to dance. He danced with several dance troops, one in Cuba. He moved to California for several years. He had a pet shop there and groomed some of the Hollywood star's pets, but kept up his dancing. He formed his own troop and performed at the Club Miami in Middletown, and at veterans hospitals around Dayton. Jim worked at AK Steel for ten years, retiring in 1992. Due to his love of children and animals, he served as an advisor for 4H in Warren County for several years. He then met and married the love of his life, Margie (Barnhart) Collier, and shared 22 happy years together. Also preceding him in death were his father, Brack Collier, Sr.; sister, Marla Collier Melton; mother and dad, Dorothy and Perry Lynn Clarke, Sr., and brother, Brack Collier, Jr., and loving wife Margie in 2012. He is survived by one sister, Rose Collier Mayne of Middletown; one brother, Perry L. (Jane) Clarke, Monroe, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who all loved Uncle Jim; and many other friends and family. Visitation will be Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, followed by services at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Purvis officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Jim's name, may be made to P.A.W.S. Adoption Center, 2790 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd., Middletown, Ohio 45044. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.
