News Death Notice
ELAM, Sam D. age 87, of Middletown, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. He was born July 25, 1926 in Middletown, Ohio and lived here all his life. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during W.W. II. Sam was a crane operator for AK Steel retiring in 1990 after 44 years of service. He enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music, working on cars, and doing woodworking. Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur W. and Ella (Watson) Elam; his wife, Faye Elam in 2008; four brothers, Charles, James, Russell and Donald; and three sisters, Alta Lansaw, Ruby Whiteman and Helen Mays. He is survived by one daughter, Louise Drury, husband Joseph; one son, Arthur Elam, wife Pamela; four grandchildren, Becky Jones, husband Tom; James Elam, wife Elizabeth, Sam David Elam, fiancée Lauren, and Casey Drury, girlfriend Kelly; three great grandchildren, Lynette, Rebecca and Pierce Matthew; one brother, Daniel Elam, wife Shirley; one sister, Jessie Craig; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a gathering for family and friends on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. A private military service for the family will be by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Lorelei's Place at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Drive, Franklin, Ohio 45005. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S.
