Dad, It has been over 6 years since you went to heaven. I can´t tell you how often I think of you or how much I miss you. As I think of you today on your birthday, I choose to think of good memories with you, the love you gave me, the example you set for us & the legacy you left behind. I will always love you & we will join you in heaven one day, thanks to our sweet Lord & Savior. Happy Birthday Dad! There is no better place to celebrate than where you are right now. Love you, Donna

Dad, You were the best father anyone could have. I miss you so much but I will one day climb the stairway to heaven and run to your open arms. I have some peace just knowing you gave your heart to Jesus and you are happy and healthy with Him and your family. Love, hugs and kisses sent to you in heaven. I love you and so glad we had many one on one times and happy moments together. Your first child, as you know...Shirley☺❤

Dear Phyllis and family,
Mom and Dad are surely welcoming Don into Heaven as we speak. I am so glad he is no longer suffering. He was a great man but everybody knows that. We all loved him so much. I miss those days when we all went camping. Don and Daddy were quite a hoot!! Both are missed but we will see them again. Love you all, Family of late Bill and Alberta (Bert) Saylor

My sympathy to his family. I remember talking to Don about his dream of one day becoming sheriff of Butler County. He acted on that dream and surrounded himself with some very good people and brought the BCSD to new heights. Pleasure to work with at HPD and may you rest in peace.

Sooty to hear of the Sheriff's passing. My sympathy to his family. I enjoyed knowing "H" at HPD and later as Sheriff. He brought many improvements to the sheriff 's department during his time there. Rest in peace.

This message is to the Gabbard family, many of whom I know, I pray that God will be with you during your sorrow. I grew up with Don. Don was a few years older than me and I looked up to Don as a role model because of his moral character, just as I did my older brothers that both volunteered to fight in Korea and were both wounded. All three of my role models as a child are now gone. My last brother, also named Don, died 2 years ago. He retired from the Army and gave 32 years' service to America. As we grew up as children, we were called Nobbers. We were people of Appalachian descent. Our forebears migrated to Hamilton out of the hills and hollows of eastern Kentucky in search of work. They came searching for jobs to feed their families, looking for opportunity for their children, and for their future generations that are now here today. Don is representative of what our forebears wished and aspired for the Appalachian future generations to become. He has given even more honor to the Appalachian name. He has made Hamilton, Butler County and the state and America a better place. If there was ever a person in Hamilton that should have his name on a public thoroughfare coming down Grand Boulevard, it is Don Gabbard- and I believe there is no equal. Thank you, Don. Rest in Peace. God Bless.

Never faltering in your duties to keep us safe from harm, Lending a generous hand to those in need and all those things you have done no one either didn't know about or talk about. I personally witnessed you showering miracles on children at Christmas time when they had no one else. You meant so much to many. I want to send my deepest sympathy to the Gabbard family. RIP Don.
