Dorothie Marie Smith(1931 - 2013)

Following several years of Dementia and Alzheimer's, Dorothie, 81, passed away in her sleep on Monday, June 17, 2013.
Dorothie was born on November 5, 1931, to Irving L. and Rose M. Smith of Hanford, CA. Irving, a farmer, and Rose a homemaker, set a good moral foundation for Dorothie that she never wavered from.
Dorothie graduated from Hanford High in 1949 and continued her education at COS and UCLA before returning home to Hanford where she married her high school sweetheart William C. Coe. They had two children together, Karen A. Coe and William "Buddy" Coe.
Dorothie moved with her family to the San Francisco Bay area in 1959 so that William could complete his PhD in psychology. The family spent six years in the area before moving to Fresno in 1965 where William received a professorship at California State University of Fresno. It is here that Dorothie would spend the remainder of her life.
In the mid-1970's Dorothie remarried to Robert Scordino and the family blended from three to seven. Even with this larger blended family, the children always had fresh clothing to wear and healthy home cooked meals.
During her years in Fresno, she made many friends; she especially enjoyed her bridge games and tennis matches with friends.
After the oldest children graduated from high school and moved on with their lives, Dorothie had several successful years as a Realtor.
Karen, her daughter preceded Dorothie in death. Her son William V. Coe, stepdaughters Marlene Scordino, Gina Preston, and Diana Duke, as well as her favorite son-in-law, Jim Duke, survive her. She has three grandchildren, Bryan W. Coe, Christy Thomason, and Taylor "Michael" Zalenski. She has two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Carlie Thomason.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Grangeville Cemetery: 10428 14th Avenue, Armona, CA 93202 559-924-3439.
