George Mathews passed away on January 5, 2014 from complications of a bacterial pneumonia. He was born on October 29, 1939 to parents, Tom and Clista Mathews. George was one of twelve children. He attended Lakeside Elementary and Hanford High. After graduating from high school, he worked for a year in construction in San Francisco. He was then hired by the Kings County Fire Department. In 1961, he began his 25 year career with the California Department of Forestry.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Clista Mathews, brothers Tommy and Clois, sisters Ellen Potter, Velma Jean (Chub) Sotello and Clistina Myers.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Juanita. He is survived by his two sons, Doug and wife Pam of Tulare and grandchildren Brittany and Brooke and son Don and wife, Robin and grandchildren, Abby and Kyle. He is also survived by three sisters, Rosmary and Margaret and husband, Charlie, of Oakhurst, Texas and Barbara and husband, Hans, of Clovis. He is also survived by three brothers, Melvin and wife, Loretta, and Ralph both of Hanford, and Hank and wife, Anita of Palsbo, Washington.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no services.
