Gladys Elma (Douglass) Hinkley(1926 - 2013)

Gladys, 87, was born Gladys Elma Douglass on April 1, 1926 to parents; Edna Johnson and Ezra Douglass in Toledo, Washington. The family then moved to Tulare, California and later to settle in Hanford, California. Gladys graduated from Hanford High School in the early 40's.
Gladys married the love of her life; Raymond Hinkley while proudly serving our country in the U.S. Navy. Surely she was attracted to a man in uniform.
Gladys and Ray had two beautiful children. Gladys was a devoted wife and mother who loved baking for the holidays! She had a passion for reading that took her to the library once a week to explore a new adventure in one of her books. She also enjoyed embroidery, and she even taught her daughter and granddaughters; Gladys and Kathy the art also. When her children were both in High School, she worked at Woolworth's store in Hanford until she found out she was going to be a grandmother for the first time and five more times after that… She decided to live the rest of her life as a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and wife. She was with her daughter and son-in-law when the Lord took her home on Monday, October 21, 2013 at her home in Hanford.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Raymond Otis Hinkley, her siblings and their spouses; Nina Jean Burnett and spouse, Samt, Rialto Douglass and spouse Ruby and her brother-in-laws; Bill Epperson and Bill Kretzmer.
Gladys is survived by her daughter; Barbara Ann Carre and spouse Art of Hanford, California and her son; Lee Otis Hinkley and spouse Marla of Scobey, Montana. She will also be missed by her sisters; Gertrude "Toots" Epperson of Ceres, California and Glenda Kretzmer, her twin sister of Roseville, California.
