Celebrating the life of John "J.R." Richard Labandeira of Hanford, Ca. J.R. was 81 years young and always thought younger than he was. Born on July 29, 1931 in Riverdale, Ca. He went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2012. He became passionate about cars at an early age and later on proudly owned his first of many cars, a 1950 Black Buick Fastback. Rarely would he take his car in for repairs. It seemed he always knew more than the mechanics. Besides repairing and overhauling cars, J.R. worked for many years in the dairy industry. He also enjoyed racing on the BMX Gold Cup Circuit. In 1996, he placed fourth at the World Cup. His favorite football team was the San Francisco 49ers. He also loved to sing along with his karaoke machine to classic country western music. In the 1970's and later he became a DJ to his homemade tapes, sending his greatest work to family and friends. J.R. met his wife Laura while two-stepping on the dance floor. Over the years, he spent time with his children BMX racing, going to the beach as well as video-recording family moments on his 8mm video camera.
In his last days, J.R. realized that God had brought him through many trials in his life. He knew he wasn't perfect, but was forgiven because he confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
J.R. was preceded in his passing by his mother, Mary Constance Caetano Labandeira, father Matthew Rocha Labandeira, wife Laura Alice Marquez Labandeira in 2007 and wife Arlene Delores Deberry Labandeira in 1977. His brothers, Tony and Matthew Labandeira, sister Palmira Labandeira Sequeira and nephew Alvin Labandeira. He is survived by his children, Matthew William Mark Labandeira, Johnny Richard (Pamela) Labandeira and Nancy Grenz Roberts, granddaughter, Sheila Dawn Folsom, Brother Joe (Mary) Labandeira, sister-in-law Margaret Labandeira and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
