Clarence Holmes Obituary

Clarence "Bud" Holmes, Jr. of Lemoore passed away in his sleep on December 3rd, 2010 at the age of 86. Bud was born on November 20, 1924 on the family ranch in Lemoore to Clarence J. Holmes and Mary Magdalena Kurtz, an early pioneer family of Lemoore. He attended local schools graduating from Lemoore High School in 1942 where he played all sports. He was given the nickname "Flea" while playing football due to his small stature but quickness.

He enlisted in the Air Force right after graduation and spent his service time in the Pacific during World War II. Upon Honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Lemoore to work for his father who was a contractor. On April 27, 1947 he married Norma Jean Saalfeld from Hanford. They had 4 daughters and they were married for 46 years until Norma's passing in 1993.

Bud went to work for the Post Office in Lemoore and retired in 1982 after 30 years as an assistant postmaster. For most of his life, Bud could be found on a softball field either playing or coaching. He coached teams from the Hanford Queens to his daughters Bobby Sox. He was a caring, giving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed.

Bud is survived by 4 daughters; Stephanie Holmes-Jones and husband Jerry of Lemoore, Crystal Holmes of Visalia, Allison Holmes and husband Steve Allison of Lemoore and Marcie Holmes-Baker and husband Ricci of Lemoore, 2 sisters; Dorothy Wolfe of Hanford and Frances Groves of Hanford, grandchildren; Celeste Jones-Morino Escalon and husband Danny, Brandon Jones and wife Vicki , Taylor Holmes and wife Brandie, Cayci Allison, Steven Allison II of Lemoore, Cody DeSilva Visalia, Kennedy Baker, Kristin Chronister and husband Rory and Katie Allison of Lemoore, great grandchildren; Colten Morino, Cooper Morino of Escalon, Madison Smith-Jones of Nevada and Makayla Jones of Hanford.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 PM at Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM in Lemoore Cemetery.

Friends who wish may contribute to Lemoore High School Softball, 101 East Bush St., Lemoore, CA 93245 in Bud's memory.
