Eileen Parry passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014 with her children and siblings by her side. She was 92 years old.
The Guest Book is expired.
Eileen was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 20, 1921 to Austin and Leona Malloy. She was the oldest of seven children.
Eileen attended Catholic Central High School and later Marquette University where she was studying to be a doctor. It was there that she met Louis Jacob Parry who was also studying to be a doctor. She put her education and the dream of a career in medicine on hold to get married, and travel throughout the United States with her husband while he was in the Navy. It was during this time that she gave birth to three children. Their last place of military duty was in Hawaii. Hearing that doctors were needed in California, they sailed on a naval ship to the shores of California. Doctor Parry completed his residency in Hanford and set up a practice in 1955. They had another child in 1957 and were expecting their fifth when they divorced in 1959.
Eileen went to work for Kings County as a lab assistant. It was here that she was encouraged to go back to school. She stopped working for the County once she was admitted to the nursing program at Fresno State where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in public health nursing. Upon completion of her degree, she went back to work for Kings County as a Public Health nurse. She continued her studies and became a nurse practioner, the first in Hanford. Eileen ran the Kings County Health Clinic as a nurse practitioner/physician's assistant until she retired in 1992.
Upon retiring, Eileen was finally able to enjoy the fruit of her labor by working in her yard, decorating her house, volunteering for the
, and enjoying life.
Eileen's hard work and her contribution to the community was recognized in 1996 by receiving the "Women of Distinction" award by Soroptimist International of Hanford.
Eileen is preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Leona Malloy, her sister, Maureen Ramsdell, and her two brothers, Donald and Buster Malloy.
She is survived by her sons, Michael and wife Nancy of Prineville, Oregon; Peter, David and wife Susan of Hanford; and daughters, Susan Parry, and Patricia and husband Kevin Costner of Hanford; grandchildren, Rachel Parry and Becky Ryan Westfall and great-grandson, Miles Westfall.
She is also survived by her brother John Malloy, and sisters, Katie Wilcox and Sharon Scamehorn.
The family would like to express their thanks to the community of Hanford for all the support they extended to their mother throughout the years. Eileen often commented that the support of friends, coworkers, business owners, the nuns at McCarthy School and Sacred Heart Hospital, and the neighbors where the Parry family resided was what made her successful.
Also, the family is grateful to the staff at Diamond Terraces. The care and love they gave their mother has truly touched their hearts.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Brigid's Catholic Church at the corner of Douty and Florinda streets in Hanford. Interment will be private.
